Diese Stadt befindet sich im Norden Andhra Pradeshs.Der Distrikt selbst entstand am 15.August 1950.Davor war die Gegend Teil des Distriktes Vishakapatnams.Der Ort Srikakulam, die Distrikthauptstadt, liegt am oestlichen Ufer des FlussesNagavali.Im Sued-Osten liegt der Distrikt Vijayanagaram und im Norden liegt die Grenze nach Orissa.In der Vergangenheit war Srikakulam auch als Chicacole bekannt.

Die Haupteinnahmequelle hier ist die Weberei.Die Baumwollprodukte, besonders Musselin, sind fuer ihre hervorragende Qualitaet bekannt.Ausserdem sind hier die Moschee Jumma Masjid, die von Sher Muhammad Khan erbaut worden ist und der Tempel von Kotisvaraswami beruehmt.
